Saltman

Lake Okeechobee (FL)

Saltman reported catching Crappie using the Vertical Jigging Shallow (0-9') technique and Shimano Vanford Spinning Reel - EOL on Lake Okeechobee. Additional comments from this report: "A windy day of Crappie fishing on the north end of Lake Okeechobee. I would power-pole down then flip and pitch the warhead jig with the Gypsy blue afterburner on it in and around scattered cattails. It was a combination of vertical jigging and pitching in and around the cattails that provided the structure to hold the crappie in large numbers. I ended up catching 65 fish in a 4 hour period. I kept 25 for dinner and threw back the rest to keep the spawn going strong. "

Additional comments from this report: "Fishing for large mouth around docks and right when the rain calmed down I look around with my livescope and you can see schools of crappie around chasing bait, just casted a 1/8 jig and Shad soft plastic slow retrieving it and jigging it most was 9+ inches, use your electronics when they are schooling on bait they can’t hide easy you can do this with side scan as well.
