The best plastics were the Jackall Rhythm wag 3½" in SS Shad on a 1/4oz VMC mooneye in bluegill color. I was using a St. Croix Eyecon ML Extra fast rod with a daiwa excellent 2500 reel spooled with suffix 832 tracer lime braid and a 6ft leader of seagar invizX 10lb flourocarbon. Water temp was around 75 and it was fairly calm and hot out. There was a significant mayfly hatch "

Kail’s Fishing Reports
Lake Minnetonka (MN)
Kail’s Fishing Reports reported catching Crappie using the Vertical Jigging Mid Depth (10-19') technique and St. Croix Avid Series Panfish Spinning Rods on Lake Minnetonka. Additional comments from this report: "Right after ice out is a great time to knock the rust off your fishing skills and get out and have some fun. Look for staging areas that the fish move into when the water warms up, the break just out from the small bays and channels. Use your electronics to locate a school and spot lock over them and drop your Jigging rap down to them, the bigger one's are normally on the bottom of the school. Use small twitching action and watch there reaction on your electronics, try raising up as your jigging to make them chase it. I like to tie about a arms length of mono or Floro to the braid or use a small swivel between the braid and mono and tie direct to the bait. You can put a minnow head on the jig or fish fish without depends on the day. Good Luck!"

Ray Valley reported catching Walleye using the Vertical Jigging Mid Depth (10-19') technique and St. Croix Eyecon Spinning Rods on Lake Saint Croix. Additional comments from this report: "Water temperatures are quickly dropping and this is the time of the year when the jigging rap bite starts to pick up on the Croix. We had some spotty success but gizzard shad were popping at the surface everywhere and lit up the electronics. We caught 4 plump walleye from 17-20 inches. About 2 hours later, they regurgitated a dozen or so half digested shad. So fishing could be challenging the remainder of the fall since predators in the system have all the food they could possibly want. Therefore, reaction baits like jigging raps might be your best bet for hooking into a few before ice up. And oh, one last bit of advice for fishing jigging raps. Use a medium action rod with a stiff enough tip to handle a heavy jigging rap, but not too stiff that it pulls the bait out of the mouth when you rip up. Or use a longer mono/fluorocarbon leader on a stiff tipped rod. Something that absorbs shock but still give you a decent hook set."
