Best Spybait Line

It’s about that time of year where the smallies are moved up pretty shallow on Lake MI. Crushed them on spybaits over large boulder and structure in water between 8-15 feet! If you can’t get them with that, throw on your favorite dropshot combo and work around the structure with that!

Low visibility and changing conditions made them hard to keep up with, which is pretty typical of post spawn smallmouth. But when you did they were choking on a spybait."

The shallow areas of Lake St-Clair offer huge flats that are occasionally populated by big spooky fish who require a long cast and a low profile finess presentation. A spy bait is a great way to cover water in these shallow situations. In deeper situations it can feel like a much slower way to fish when you just factor in sink time and a slower retrieve to keep it down. Don’t forget a quick turn of the handle or to stop it and dump slack in it to get a following semi-neutral fish to commit. "

I targeted isolated boulders that I could see and made a long cast to get bites. "
