Month: August Weather: Partly cloudy, variable winds 5-8 mph changing directions, 80s. Water Temp: 76-78 Depths: Weeds in 10-14' of water. I launched from the state launch and worked my way around the reservoir looking for weeds that were submerged at least 3-4' below the water surface. Given water clarity of 6-10' in most areas, these areas in the northern and southern arms and on the south shore of the eastern arm were quite easily found. Fishing various small plastics, I used a moderate lift/drop and a medium shake/rest retrieve to keep a 1/8oz jig head barely bumping the tops of the weeds and dropping into any open spaces between stands of weeds. This process produced quality crappie. It required near constant movement, as given the water temperature the crappie in the weeds were spaced out and somewhat hesitant to bite. Some small perch and bluegill were also caught in this process. I keyed in on areas where perch/bluegill presence was minimal in order to find the often less aggressive crappie.

Month:August Weather: Partially cloudy, variable wind from 3-8 mph changing directions, 80s Water Temp: 76-78 Depths: Deeper weed edges 14-20'. I launched from the reservoir's state launch at approximately 4:30 PM and noticed numerous vessels on the water. Jet ski and boat action was relatively heavy for the first hour I was on the water, but it did not seem to hinder the fishing. I took the boat to the old roadbed on the northern arm of the lake and began fishing the weed edge on the southern side of the dropoff. I immediately encountered bass when slowly twitching the ZMan Trick ShotZ in The Deal back to the boat in roughly 16' of water. The fish hit right as the plastic was pulled out of the weeds. This routine worked all along the roadbed and the western shoreline of the lake in 14-18'. It also work in the southern shore (in the eastern arm) and across the dam in slightly deeper water in 16-20'. In a couple hours of fishing, numerous bass were boated, mostly in the 1-2 pound range. This lake has lots of bass, but most are on the small side. Weeding through the small fish eventually leads to some bigger specimen and better fights.
