I targeted weed edges in 12-16ft adjacent to deep water. The key was dropping my camera down and getting a good view of the bottom. I was looking for the edge or sparse vegetation. Both set lines and jigging has been stellar.

The smallies are really stacking up around shallow rock reefs & points. They were absolutely hammering the Zman power finesse jig with a TRD Bugz trailer. Tossing the jig right up in the shallow spots worked, along with working the edges of the reefs. If you caught one fish, you could boat a few more making smiliar casts.

Smallmouth could be caught in offshore reefs, shallow rock points, and sand banks along the shore. A 1/2oz football jig was the best producer with a craw trailer. Fish also bit on 3" spark shads slow rolled over rocks, a dropshot with a Meagabass Hazedong shad, and a ned rig. Fish liked eating off the bottom with something worked slowly.

Smallies were biting the A-Rig (Minnesota rig version) off sharp dropoffs near rock flats. Tossing the A-Rig out and letting it fall while tracking it's dept on Active Target, then reeling it back up the drop off triggered some nice sized fish.

The late summer drop shot bite has been hot. Any offshore cover such as brush piles, rock piles or cribs in 18' to 22' seems to be holding nice smallmouth. Weather and time of day don't seem to have much effect on this bite so it's an all day thing too!

Fish were shallow and were biting on the Carolina rig (speed craw), a Zman turbo crawz on a football head and a ned rig. The were around rock flats, and could be caught in less than 6' of water.

It's mid July and the smallies can be found in 10-15' near the obvious rocky points on the lake. Dragging football jigs slowly around the rocks can get bit during the day. As sunset approaches, the fish tend to move up shallower. Late in the day the smallies seem to move up into that 3'-6' range and can be caught on almost anything. The offshore reefs can get hot at dusk.
