Right away in the morning I found a few groups of 2-4 fish swimming around on an offshore rock area. The 110+1 was key as I was fishing in 8-12 feet.

Very finicky bite. The largemouth were just start to make beds. They would not eat a normal 4 inch plastic so we down sized to neds and were 100% successful for every fish we saw sight fishing.

The SDBF High School State Championship went well. My boys won the event throwing jerkbaits on main lake points. The key of the day was to have a solid rotation. There were 3 points holding quality fish, and the schools would get active for 15 - 25 casts and shut off. Each pass the boys would catch one 3 - 4 lbs and go to the next point.

The largemouth were up shallow and grouped up. Had to cover a lot of water, but also use your FFS efficiently. A lot of the better fish would follow and you would have to throw at them 5 - 10 more times to get them to bite.

Found some bass around pondweed and rock transitions and did well around spawning bluegill. Threw a chatterbait when it was windy and cloudy and slowed down with a Texas rig when it was calm. Caught a lot of fish and sever big one. Water was very clear, 5ft visibility in some places.

Had a decent finish in the MCBC event on Big Stone. Caught plenty of 2.5 pounders along with one over 5 and another just under 5. Bites came mostly on a swim jig and wacky rig in and around the shallow pond leaf.

Water temps in the mid 70s with air temps in the 80s. Caught 18.7lbs of largies fishing the inside weedlines of the curly leaf pondweed with a variety of techniques such as a swim jig and 4in stickbait. Finding clear water was very key as there were more gills in these areas.

I was shore fishing the river section of the lake targeting shallow submerged vegetation with a spinnerbait in dirty water, given the dirty water, I was using a hybrid blade between a willow and Colorado. I was on a wind-blown shoreline right before the rain rolled in and it proved to be productive. Hard to beat spinnerbaits around submerged grass!

Fish were holding less then two foot under docks. If they fallowed a moving bait out but did not commit they would eat a jig on the next pitch almost every time.

6/4/22 Pt. 2 - After my clients wanted to see some variety other than sight fishing bedding smallmouth we chased after largemouth and pike. One of the clients enjoyed the sight fishing experience and used a whacky rig to continue doing so for largemouth. The other was using a Venom spinnerbait and caught largemouth and pike throwing into open water. Grand total in 8 hours we ended up with 68 bass and 29 pike caught...a very successful day for Xstream Bassin' Guide Service!
