Quick Summary - I'm headed to the BASS Kayak Championship at Fork! State Championship Qualifier for Colorado was held at Pueblo Reservoir this year. Started out Friday on the east end of the lake fishing a little deeper dropoffs around rock. Beast coast jig with the 3" chigger made it through the whole day without losing it and caught most of the fish in practice (smallmouth). Needed to be a little bit clearer water as fish were eating it right after the fall or after the first hop. Caught a few trout on the wiggle wart before finally getting a few small smallmouth on it. Day of the tournament - decided to head to find grass as my largest one in practice cracked 15" and knew it would take about 80" to win it. Saw fish busting around grass in the AM and off of points. Picked off a couple smallmouth on a point with the jig early on. Found a flatter bank with some deep scattered grass and threw the War Eagle buzzbait. Caught my largest of the day in the pic with that buzzbait and caught another further back in the cove around scattered grass. Switched up to a frog around some protected grass mats and caught two more largies. Wrapped it up by catching a smallmouth on the wiggle wart out on the main lake around scattered brush/grass. Ended up in 2nd for the day!

I achieved and excellent short video of the Daiwa Emcast and its capabilities. A live bluegill may thump the rod but it takes a game fish to pay the line out. The reel never feels over worked. The light weight of the reel makes it a candidate for chucking lures. BONUS: Daiwa rates the Emcast as salt water capable. I am converting nearly all of my setups to be driven by Daiwa Emcast BR spinning reels. Why not?

Bass were feeding on 3-4 inch perch in the grass. Some fish but the worm on the fall, some bit the worm while it was being retrieved at a medium pace. The Trokar TK133 pro-v flipping hook instantly hooked the fish and kept them pegged with the pro-v bend.

The fall season fishing patterns are working well so far. I targeted topped out weeds ,punching throw with a1oz waitght. Tie a snell knot to your hook for better hookups. Lots of fun punching Matts. Give an honest try, and you'll be surprised what you'll find. Have fun and be safe on the water.

Nice urban fishery in Denver’s Lake District. I chucked a live crawdad out while my 3 year old and I made use of the playground. (Sweet setup for parents). Testament to heavy braid as this guy was in the reeds and I just hauled him out. Clean release!

When I grew up fishing the Adirondacks, the onset of the fall bite could be measured by the effectiveness of inline spinners and spoons. It May be similar here. 59 degree air temp with lingering clouds from the previous night’s rain produced a breezy morning. As I write this, more rain is falling. I was very excited to get this nice, healthy bass.

48-50* water temps, low pressure with a cold front moving in. Fish were holding in 2-8 feet in the vegetation. I fished the spinnerbait slow, letting it tick the tops of the vegetation and ripping it clean. Strikes would occur when the bait was ripped free. Fish were definitely keying on red

Some fish were on inside weed lines between the grass and rip rap banks. I was getting bit throwing my spinnerbait to the bank, trying to make it land quietly and working it just underneath the surface. I also got a couple bites on a jig on rock structure. Water temps between 64-66 degrees

Bass are shallow in the grass. Running a buzzbait over their heads seems to trigger a reaction bite. Poppers and spooks also get some bites. When the wind is blowing a small swim jig works well run through the grass

Water Temps really cooling to 55 degrees. Every catch was on top her at Navajo today. Biggest catch was 3lbs. 12oz.

This lake has all three bass. Smallmouth spotted bass and largemouth. The fall bite is starting to heat up and you can find fish on bluff walls in deeper water right now.
