I got out to see what is changing from the warm up that we are currently experiencing in Alabama. The Artic blast the week of Christmas drop the water temps from mid 50's to Mid 40's and the recent warm up has put the water temps back in the mid 50's. Continuing with the deep pattern that I found on my previous report of deep tree tops and brush piles, I found a good school of 12+ inch crappie in a tree top near the deep part of the creek channel. Due to water clarity, I started using a Electric Chicken to instant success on the first drop and continued to catch fish the entire 2 hour trip. I caught a bunch but only brought home 10 good crappie. Tip for the Z-Man Micro Finesse baits: they are more buoyant than a Bobby Garland, so they have a slower fall than other baits. You may need to up your jig head one size (1/32 oz to a 1/16 oz head). But they work GREAT.

I caught white crappie in deep laydowns and brush piles using my Active Target to find them. I casted and counted down to them. Fish were in 15-20 feet of water in creeks. I had to retrieve as slow as possible due to the water temp 47°.
