12/13/2020: 10" of ice. By now most guys are pushing "deep" (13-14') to fish new water and get away from the masses, however a shallow bit still exists if you are willing to cover ground and get away from the crowds and road traffic. We did quite well in 10' of water with spoons and deadsticks with a minnow and plain hook. If they didn't bite the spoon it was more than likely they would hit the deadstick rod so it was important to have both. Red, glow red, and chartreuse are always good starting places. Tie on a rattling spoon or rattling hard bait to help call fish in to your area if its slow.

We fished the weekend of December 11th and the walleyes were being very finicky. Our best luck was on minnows on a dead stick a foot off the bottom.

Early ice the walleye seem to chase bait on shallow flats. Best bites will be early morning and before dark per usual. Aggressively jig a spoon tipped with a minnow head.
