Soon as the ice comes off of Green Bay in Door County the smallmouth quickly pull up onto big spawning flats and the first major break lines. Throwing small hard thumping swimbaits like the Steady Swimmer are my favorite. I like to throw these on a light football head and bang them into rocks and cover. These fish typically are in small wolf packs of 3-6 fish. Once I catch one I’ll try to clean them up with a small Tube. Wind blown points and flats will hold the most fish as they follow the warmer water.
