Smith Mountain Lake is fishing well. Water temp is around that high 40 low 50 area. Most the fish I have caught have been on crank baits like the rock crawler and shad rap. Also a jig has been getting some bites.

Really tough tournaments but managed a nice fish on a black buzzbait in the morning fishing shallow wood. Caught a couple on a trickworm around wood and docks. Best fish came on a 1/10 ned rig with a green pumpkin finesse trd. A lot of small fish that didn’t measure throughout the day on a trickworm as well.

Fished a club tournament on Smith Mountain Lake this past weekend and caught fish mostly on drop shots, swimbaits, and Ned rigs. Most fish were in 20 feet of water chasing shad that were positioned on secondary points in creeks and main lake coves. Fishing was challenging, as most fish were mixed in with stripers and getting baits past the stripers was difficult. My best fish (pictured) came off a deep dock piling on a drop shot.
