We got to the lake around 9:00 am and started looking for bass on beds. The highest water temps were around 64 degrees, we found maybe ten different beds and we scanned from hales ford down to near walton creek! I ended up only catching three and missing one! My first fish came off a white zoom super fluke with a chartruese dipped tail on a drop shot and my other two came off a red bug ribbontail on a u-head and a red bug ned rig! Smith mountain is a highly pressured lake, we had two different tournaments there this past weekend and most of the people were catching them on senkos and shakeyheads! Sadly these tournaments probably took most of the fish off their beds so if you plan on going bed fishing here try to look for hard to reach places and around laydowns! Also please try to maintain catch and release when fishing for these bed fish so that we can try keep this place special!

Judah's Report: So we got to the lake around 2:00 and as we were launching our boat we found a fish on a bed right at the boat ramp! So we immediately knew the fish were on beds. So we started off going up the lake from Hales ford bridge but we didn't see much fish on beds, so we went back down the lake and found and caught our first pretty quickly! we were mainly trolling along the banks with our polarized glasses until we would spot a fish! We found our second fish not long after our first fish but this fish was pretty finicky, so we started off pitching a jig, weighted Texas rig, and a dropshot to it but it kept on getting spooked off the bed, so I pitched a Biospawn Exoswim swimbait on a belly weighted hook into the middle of the bed and the fish immediately got angry and started mouthing the bait until I finally got a good hookset on it!
