Water Temp: 52-57 Water Clarity: water clarity conditions were variable Target Depth 1-50’ with most fish caught in 15-30’. I fished Shasta for 6 days straight from sun up to 4pm+\-. The first three days were sunny and calm with air temps hitting the mid 70’s followed by 3 days of non-stop extreme rain and heavy wind. The first 3 days I caught fish on primarily bottom baits like the Hayabusa football jig, FattyZ etc along with a glide bait. I fished all over and caught fish all over the lake so I can’t really say one area was better than another. The fish are all fat right now and eating small 1-2” shad. The fish were primarily glued to the bottom but there were some roamers and some would come up for a bait like the glide bait. To be successful fish slow. Very slow. Soak your baits, work reaction slow. The fish are not in a very positive mood. This was pre-fishing and competing in the WON Bass Shasta Open. 3 days without a functioning motor for the event as well. I managed an average of 12lbs a day which I would say you can easily do 12-14 a day at the moment and possibly better if you know where to look.

Fished the Wild West Pro/Am this past weekend. Conditions were tough. The Sac arm was very stained. McCloud was also very stained. The pit River arm had cleaner water along with the main body. Recommend, graph main body and pit. Look for main lake/pit river points or pockets that face into the current. Use your graph to determine fish behavior. See nothing or fish close to the bottom. Fish very slow dead sticking any smaller sized baits. If that doesn't work try a slow steady retrieve or dragging. If weather conditions chnage as they do by the minute on Shasta this time of year pay attention fish may become more active in which case you can fish higher in the water column. Fish shallow if the wind is blowing and deeper if calm and sunny. Most bites will come in 5-30'. If you fish for 20 minutes in a spot without a bite move on. Your best bet right now is to find areas where the fish are congregated which could take you most of the day to find. You can get bit anywhere but there are currently areas where the fish are "schooled" up and you can sit there all day and catch 20-50 per day. My co was in first place after day 1 and I was in 17. Would have made the top 10 cut doing this if I hadn't been spot jacked. Finished in 29th overall so that should tell you that this is working great. For me underspins on the bottom were the ticket.
