Month: Mid July Weather: Sunny, slight breeze (5 mph or less) out of the East, 80s Water Temp: low 70s Depths: Open Flats 11-14' I launched from the County Rt.17 fishing access site/boat launch in Redfield shortly after sunrise. I spent the day on the eastern half of the lake fishing for the mix of fish the lake has to offer. I found active fish just outside the Salmon River channel on the open flats just west of the County Rt 17 bridge. The bluegill were responsive to numerous small offerings, particularly the VMC Curl Tail Jigs fished from just off the bottom to approximately halfway up the water column. They also hit various Eurotackle EPF Swim and B-vibe offerings on small jig heads and on drop shots. I also found a mix of perch, bluegill and crappie on deeper flats just outside of weed edges in 10'+ of water using similar tactics. In order to initially entice a bite, I used a bit of night crawler on a drop shot. However, live bait was no longer necessary once the fish started biting.

Month: Mid July Weather: Sunny, slight breeze (5 mph or less) out of the East, 80s Water Temp: low 70s Depths: Weeds 3-8', Rocks 3-8', Rocks/Stumps 12-18' I launched from the County Rt.17 fishing access site/boat launch in Redfield shortly after sunrise. I spent the day on the eastern half of the lake fishing for the mix of fish the lake has to offer. The first part of the morning was spent testing various offerings including jerk baits, topwaters, live bait rigs, and small soft plastics. I began to hit fish once I changed to the Ned Rig. I moved along the shoreline casting to internal and external weed edges and weed gaps using a slow lift/drop/pause retrieve, finding solid success with the Black/Blue Flake TRD. Once I transitioned to the June Bug color TRD it was game on. 30+ fish were boated before noon, although the vast majority were on the small side (below 2 pounds), which seems to be the norm according to many locals. As the day wore on, I moved to some rocky ledges finding fish at the tops in shallow rocks and at the bottoms in the mix of rocks and stumps leading up to the ledge. Here the Ned Rig continued to work, but the biggest fish (a couple in the 2-3 pound range) of the day were caught on the deeper side of the ledge using Damiki Rig and Fat Swing Impact 3.8" in Green Pumpkin. There are lots of hookups to be had at this out of the way body of water, even in they are not all tanks.
