Bass are suspended in deep structure, mostly brush piles. Casting past brush piles and slowly dragging a big work through it is triggering bites.

Although I put shad under forage, bass are so complex in their diet. Most of the time bass eat Shad all year round with bluegill and crawfish making up a huge portion of the diet in spring time. Brush piles in 10-15ft of water are amazing early summer as bass start to move onto their summer stuff. I recommend throwing a wide variety of baits from craws to flukes. Many brush piles are found on main lake points or on flats around spawning pockets.

I went out to the lake the other day to run my boat around and do some graphing, but I also fished for about 2 hours. I was only able to find one consistent bite, and that was pitching a texas rig into cedar trees sitting in 13-16 feet of water near the edges of the creek channel in Sand Branch. I was about halfway back into Sand Branch when I started to get bit, so it seems like the fish are starting to migrate into the creeks and bays for the fall. The water temperature was 73-74 degrees, and the outside air temperatures were in the low 80's during the time I was out there in the middle of the day. There was a light northeast wind, and no clouds in the sky, and the fish were just suspended about 6-7 feet down on these cedar trees in 13-16 feet of water. I would pitch my Texas Rig into the tree and then watch my line to see if I noticed any movement in the line before the lure hit the bottom. The bite was very subtle but proved to be a lot of fun. I did notice that one of the bass I caught had a small bluegill in its mouth, so I tried my best to use bluegill mimicking bait styles/colors. I did not catch anything very big, but I did catch decent numbers using this pattern and they were all keeper size bass that would be good for filling a limit in a tournament. I have attached a photo of one of the fish I caught on this outing. I imagine if I had had more than 2 hours of actual fishing time, I maybe could have found a bigger bag with a few big fish mixed in, as I really only flipped on about 15 of the hundreds of trees in Sand Branch. Good luck out on the water and tight lines!

Focus on the wind blown sides of the points; slowly drag and pop worm. Also have fun with the sand bass and crappie if the LM bass aren't biting. They like smaller hair jigs w/ spinners.

Catching fish on Jewel Bait Jigs with Zoom Ultra speed craw trailers in brown or green pumpkin in 2-8' of water on inside of points and secondary points. You can drag fast and get bit good. I mean they are sucking it down and hungry. When the wind is blowing a flatside 75 X from 6th Sense is getting bit inside main lake pts and secondary pts near creek channel swings. 6.3:1 Gear ratio seems to be the right speed. Anything in shad color is getting hit.
