I fished the lake from 10/25/23 through 10/29/23 for the Team Trail Outdoors TX Championship tournament. It was basically cold and rainy all week, with 4 out of the 5 days being below 65 degrees and raining all day long from sunrise to sunset. The water temperature on the lake ranged from 67-72 degrees fahrenheit and the water clarity on the lake ranged from 2 feet of visibility to about 7 feet of visibility. During the three official practice days prior to the cold front, we caught several good fish, including 3 in the 7-8 pound range, on spooks, drop shots, and glide baits. However, when the cold front rolled in during the tournament, that bite went away and the only way we could get bit was throwing a wacky rigged senko weightless on banks with big boulders in the many different marinas on the lake in anywhere from 2-10 feet of water, and working them as painfully slow as we could. On day 1 of the tournament, we had a limit that went 10.43 pounds with a 4 pound kicker (pictured with the report) which had us sitting in 37th out of 106 teams. However, on day 2 with the massive cold front the bite slowed way down and we only managed to catch 2 keepers for 2.85 pounds, bringing our two day total weight to 13.28 pounds on 7 keepers, which got us 41st place out of 106 teams in the event. The cold front that came in really made the fishing tough, as there were only 4 bags over 15 pounds brought in on day 2 of the tournament. The front dropped the air temps about 25 degrees overnight between day 1 and day 2 of the event and dropped the water temps a few degrees as well, and brought heavier cold rain and strong north winds with it as well. One key adjustment we made on day 2 that helped us get our bites was to add a little bit of weight to our wacky rigs instead of going weightless, either by using a nail weight or by using a weighted wacky jighead. It was definitely a grind of a tournament and not exactly the way we wanted it to go but we were super grateful to be out there fishing the championship and to have a decent limit on the first day of the event! Thank you everyone for reading my reports and tight lines!

Zoom "Ol Monster" in watermelon red is the best color to throw on a texas rig targeting docks here. I pair that with a frittside 7 in the "midnight pearl" color as my search and destroy to find the fish to begin with, then slow down with the worm to pick them off 1 by 1.

Pretty tough fishing conditions. A cold front moved through the middle of the night. The top water bite was non-existent. I had a couple of bass swipe at the Berkley Choppo but no takers. After searching around the only area I could get a bite was an area that had tree lay downs around rocks with overhanging tree shade cover with the silver squarebill.

I spent everyday from 10/04/23 to 10/07/23 on the lake practicing for and competing in the first Collegiate Bass Trail of Texas event for the 2023-24 season. I've spent a lot of time on the water recently both before and after that event, and a lot of it has been pretty tough, so I haven't been writing as many reports as I usually do, but my week on PK was pretty good for the most part. In the three practice days, the weather was still fairly warm, with lows in the 70's and highs in the high 80's and low 90's, bright sun, and a slight breeze out of the southwest. During those three days, the bite on PK was phenomenal. Me and my college tournament partner Jacob were catching them from sun up to sun down on nothing but a spook in the back halves of creek arms along creek channel swing banks, or in smaller main lake pockets with steep contours in them almost setting up like a drain. If there was timber along the rock banks in these areas, that was the best spot to get bit, and we got bit on the spook in 3 feet of water, and in 30 feet of water. The bass were chasing suspended balls of baitfish around in these areas and they were absolutely crushing the topwater, we were catching 15-18 pounds a day on our best 5 without even really having to try that hard, and our biggest of the week went 5 pounds and 4 ounces (pictured with the report) that Jacob caught in 3 feet of water on the spook underneath a dock along a steep rock bank. It was a great week, but unfortunately the tournament didn't go the way we wanted it to, as a massive cold front came in the night before the tournament and dropped the water temperature down in the lake from 78-80 degrees all the way down to about 72 degrees, while the outside temps dropped about 25 degrees on both ends and the wind switched directions and started blowing out of the northeast. After this, the topwater bite went away completely, and we caught our tournament fishing throwing a KVD 1.5 hard knock squarebill in the same areas we had been fishing in practice. This pattern produced 2 keeper bites that weighed a little over 5 pounds and 2 short fish, which got us 48th place out of 89 teams in the event. Definitely not what we wanted and not the standard we hold ourselves too, but overall it was a fun week on PK and I can't wait to get back out there in a week for the TTO championship. If the weather is stable, the topwater bite on PK right now is INCREDIBLE!
