Little pelican is a different animal than it's bigger brother pelican lake. While I'm not saying smallmouth don't wonder in from pelican, they really are not worth pursuing. Now compared to pelican which is very rocky, covered in zebra muscles and plays great to offshore fishing... little pelican is weedy, shallow and really supports shallow grass fishing. Water temp just went over 70 degrees there and most the bass have spawned already, leaving many hungry and aggressive males and a few females up shallow in the pads. Try and find heavier vegetation near points with deeper water nearby... grab a frog and proceed to crush them. I Always have a swimjig handy for swimming in and around the cover, as well as a punching rig on the deck for when the fish start tucking themselves under the mats.

The bass are munching the frog right now, especially on Little Pelican. There is a lot of emergent vegetation, but try to find key areas in that vegetation, such as multiple weeds in an area, logs or laydowns, and cattail edges. Make sure to let your frog pause for a couple seconds when you cast it, and then start walking it back to the boat.
