Been trying a technique with a slip bobber and a dropshot rig. Caught a 3.6 lb Largemouth in about 20' of water. Using my 2-pole license, I just left that bobber rig following the boat and fished another rig off the front. Saw the bobber moving around, set the hook, and there he was. Unfortunately, he swallowed it, so I tried once to retrieve the hook, but ended up cutting the line. Didn't get a picture because I wanted to get him back in the water. Got a 2 lb Smallmouth on the same rig, a couple 8-10" LM on dropshot, and a couple SM on the same.

Different part of same retaining wall as last weeks 5lber, got this 5ob 9oz around 6:40 AM. 3" paddletail drop shot with a 3/16oz stick weight with 2-3' hang. Give 10-20 sec wait after the cast, then drag slowly to the boat. Be careful of snags and weeds. Might try a weedless hook, but I'm used to the open G-Finesse. Got another dozen small and large mouth, but nothing longer than 12". In fact, the big guy was my third fish after 4" LM, then a 8" SM, and then that big guy in the photo! I fished another hour before calling it a morning, so that 8-10 fish came in that time. Good time to finesse the shore and the drop-offs near them. It's my home lake, so I don't like to go too long. I get a good fish, and then I like to stop and save for another day.

6/25 5 AM - 9 AM - Picked this guy up early in the morning in 7-9 ft of water around one of the islands, but the rest of the morning was small and slow. A couple 12" Smallmouth, but that was about it.

5lb 1oz off cement retaining wall. I selected the Z-Man jighead, but it was actually a cheap Amazon React Weedless, but fished like a swim jig with the hazedong 3" paddletail. Any Ned-size jighead would work for this. I like this as a search rig, the single wire weedguard gives me protection without enlarging the presentation much.. I use a spinning reel because I love the sound of a drag when it's going to work, with a MojoBass 9'6" rod to give me some decent casting distance with such a light presentation. My go-to is dropshot fishing, but after a while, the nose gets pretty ripped up, so I save these to go on the jig. I'd been fishing dropshot of the 3" Hazedong, catching a 1-2 lb small mouth, and a 2lb 15oz small mouth in the drop-off zone near the islands. The larger one was pure dropshot, but the smaller one was on a new technique I was trying out. Basically, it is a dropshot under a slip bobber (slip bobber, swivel, dropshot hook, dropshot weight). The idea is one part, get the dropshot farther away without the loss of angle to the presentation. Second, later in the summer, I plan to use that method to deliver presentations just over the tops of tall weed beds (5-6 foot) to try and coax out the large fish that like to hide there. I've trolled Carolina rigs along the tops of areas like that and done pretty well. Got the idea after some live-bait fishing on Clear Lake, CA. Anyway, the two 2lb fish are a pretty good day for me on my local lake, but still had "just another cast or two" in my head as I was ready to head in. Started swimming that small jig, hazedong through some puny lily pad areas and around some fallen trees on that island. The wind had drifted me to an angle where I was looking down the length of a retaining wall, so I cast up it as far as I could and just did a slow retrieve. That's when I picked up the 5lb large mouth. Must have only been about 3' of water and a long gentle slope back to the lake. I was worried, I only had 6lb flouro on the reel and he took me right to the weed beds to shake me off. But tweaking the drag hear and there, I was able to get her to the boat and netted. My personal record on the lake is 5ib 12oz, so it was a great fishing day for this amateur!!

6/18/22 - Got a bunch of small fish, even drop-shotted a 12" rainbow. Was getting ready to pack it in and decided to do a last cast around one of the islands when I picked up a 3 lb 0 oz, 20" smallmouth. That's the largest smallmouth I've pulled from the lake.

6/4/2022 Dawn to 9AM - Caught a 3 lb Largemouth on a Megabass swim jig with a Zman paddletail body. Good catch for this lake. Also caught a 16" Rainbow Trout on a drop shot of a 3" minnow. Surprise! Several assorted small and largemouth around the shallows. Good day overall!
