Looking for birds working bait is a great way to help determine where the bait is congregating in on the lake that day. Start on main lake points and work your way back until you come across bait with fish around it and slow down until they bite.

The cold weather has these fish glued to the bottom. Slowing down and making sure you have constant bottom contact with your bait was my key to generating bites. Do not be afraid to leave a school to find others if the size is not there.

The War Eagle Heavy finesse jig is a must have on Keowee in the winter. Spool your reels with 20lb fluorocarbon and don't be afraid to get right in the middle of those brush piles. A Zoom Creepy Crawly or Twin tail grub in green pumpkin can produce good numbers. Make sure you dip the tips of the trailer in JJ's Magic Chartreuse. The spots can't resist it!

Water temps were in the low 50s to high 50s depending on what parts of the low lake you were on. Caught fish in 30 foot of water and less than 5 foot of water. Caught spotted bass on brush piles with a shakey head and up shallow I was cranking rocks and caught large mouth.
