find the wind blown shorelines and points in the spring, a 1/8 oz jig tipped with a fathead or shiner minnow is a killer bait. After the walleyes spawn they will pull out into deep water and rest for a few days and then they will have the feed bags on. find the wind blown shorelines and points use your electronics to locate the fish and pitch or vertical jig for them, normally fish 1'-15' of water. I like to use 10 lb braid as my mainline and a length of 6-8lb test mono about 3'-5' long tied to the braid or a small barrel swivel to join them together. If you are having short strikes use a stinger hook, just clip it on and stick the hook in the tail of the minnow. Good Luck.

Opening weekend on Kabetogama is sometimes a little different from what most fisherman normally see. The fish normally have just spawned and move out on the first or second break off of the shorelines and are resting. They are a lot of times they are resting in 20'-35' of water. Use your electronics to locate the fish and vertical Jig above them with a Fathead minnow or a Shinnner Minnow. I like the stand up jigs better for this and if they are short striking use a stinger hook. If you can use a 1/8 oz Jig or a 1/4 oz Jig. Use the 10 lb braid as your mainline and tie 5' of mono to your braid, using a double uni-knot or a small swivel. The water is normally very cold less than 50 degrees and you want to fish slow.

One of the funnest times of the year to fish, is fishing for Smallmouth Bass in the spring. Just find a rocky shoreline that shallow water extends out on a shallow flat mixed with rocks, gravel, and sand. Cast the DT-4 onto the shoreline as close as you can to shore, and just put your trolling motor down and start working the shoreline. Very your retrieve speed and direction as you reel your bait in. I like using the DT-4's because they are very durable, cast like a rocket, they float, they have very sharp hooks and, rarely get snagged up. Make sure you check your line often as the first 5'-10' get very nicked up easily doing this kind of fishing, I like the XT mono as it doesn’t get Knicks as easy.
