Spent a little time over a couple days on Irene during a family vacation. Largemouth were all over in the weeds. Caught them on weed edges anywhere from 10-17' deep, flipping topped out vegetation, and in a foot of water near bullrushes. Anything green pumpkin shined. The bigger size Berkley flat worm on a drop shot produced the best numbers. Stick baits worked very well. Texas rigged creatures and soft body swim baits didn't do as well but still caught fish. Frog bite would happen in the evening, white got the most blow ups. Bigger bass seemed oriented towards bluegill. Cloudy/windy days the gills backed out of the shallows and so did the bass. I did not find the quality I was hoping for... lots of bass but the 16-17" fish were not very present. Caught several 18's but nothing bigger than that.

Spent several days with the family on Lake Irene in early August. Caught bluegill and pumpkinseeds one after another while bobber fishing anywhere in the lake. They were in weeds, on weed lines, and as shallow as a foot of water. Bigger gills 8-9" could be found here and there but they were all over in the thick weeds on the mid-lake hump. It's the obvious spot so there were always boats on it. A small white jig head or hair jig tipped with a wax worm fished 2-3 feet off the bottom under a slip bobber was the preferred bait for the bigger fish. Irene has zebra mussels and the water clarity was around 10' with weed lines around 12-15'. Weeds are thick all around the lake, lots of coon tail... bullrushes are along most of the shoreline as well. Fun times!
