Fished my club's year-end Classic on Lake Gaston on November 15 and 16. My co-angler and I caught lots of spotted and largemouth throughout the lake on a wide variety of lures, but jigs and Zoom Trick Worms proved to be most productive. We found most of our better bass along grass edges next to deep dropoffs on the mainlake. We caught bass by casting to the grass edge and slowly dragging jigs and worms out until they fell nearly vertically into 20+ feet of water. Fishing was more difficult than we anticipated. The weather in NC changed drastically during the week, which seemed to put the fish in a funk. Early in the week, air temperatures were in the 80s, and the water temperatures ranged from 64 degrees to nearly 70 degrees. A cold front moved in mid-week and dropped air temperatures into the 30s in the mornings and low 60s in the afternoon. Water temps dropped, too, ranging from 59 degrees to 62 degrees.
