Had a blast on Athens, chasing schooling largemouth busting on schools of shad. Had good success with the Evergreen shower blow in shad pattern amongst the schools and running parallel to pads and over submerged vegetation

Lake Athens offers opportunity for multiple styles of fishing; from power fishing over grass, to top-water around lily pads, skipping docks, ned rigging off weed lines or chasing schools boiling on bait balls with swimbaits. Today was a truly fantastic day on Lake Athens! The Largemouth bass were schooling and boiling on bait balls offshore, in large frenzied schools. Most of the bait they were feeding on were very small, 1 to 2 inch minnows. I saw personal success using a Smeltinator Jig Head matched with a small minnow styled swimbait, when dealing with the schools of largemouth. The Zman Minnowz are some of my favorites, along with the spark shads. I also had success working a ned rig along the edge of the weed lines, as well as skipping both a wacky rigs and a ned rigs underneath docks and the edges of lily pads. As the day grew warmer, I switched to the other side of the lake and started working cover and the shady docks. There is really something for everyone on this lake!

Summer time can be challenging but also fun and rewarding. Seems like the bass are hiding in the grass, on grass lines , and are also moving towards deeper water after feeding shallow morning/evening. I’ve had most luck on double fluke on grass lines, med-deep cranks and jerk baits.
