Targeting Pike in the prespawn. Of the few times I have fished Hagerman in May the Pike have always seemed to be in the thick weedbeds. The 2nd trip the smallmouth bite was slow so we went on a mission for Pike. We found a large area of cabbage in 8 feet of water. A standard or smaller size Jerkbait was key to staying just above the tips of the vegetation. I think we caught a dozen or so in a few hours. Everyone on a Jerkbait. My fishing partner Tyler boated a 33” monster. That’s a trophy for this lake. When the lure hits the water do not crank down as you do not want it to dive to its deepest potential. Rod snaps to the side and a few upwards would keep the bait in the 2-4’ zone just above the veg. The pike couldn’t resist. Happy hunting.

Targeting rocky drop offs in 9-12’ of water on areas in between points and spawning coves. The flicker shad was producing big smallmouth and nice walleyes once the sun went down.
