Wow happy to get to say I had the joy in being able to throw lipless crankbaits on Guntersville as I feel as if this is the place to get better and grow at it. All week no matter were we went we got em good key depths 10-4 ft isolated patches of eel grass but had to be fresh hard bottom as well as only eel grass knowing mixed in. The fish were using these parts of lakes to be able to both bulk up after the spawn and before they go to spawn. The lake is all screwed up and there is plenty of bed fish left to be caught as well. This was the two best ways to catch was to throw as fast as u can and just knick the weeds. Or if that did not work reel avg speed feel you are in the eel grass and then swing your rod like a baseball bat as soon as the bait came out an angry ole hungry boy was waiting to eat it ! Purple seemed to be the best in royalty color, not sure why but they love it make sure it is a 1 knocker or they will not touch it !

Throwing a football jig unconventionally is never talked about enough. Everyone thinks it has to be the same boring not fun dragging cadence that is as much fun as watching YouTube ads. I love this technique call it "Hula-ing it" Yes I named it after myself lol. I take a long rod with parabolic bend all Daiwa rods do a fantastic job with this but any beef stick with parabolic bend will work. You simply bomb your jig out and wait till you feel bottom. You then swim it in but you switch your rod tip left and right which makes the jig snap back and forth causing a somewhat circular motion when it swings side to side. This good size spot fell for it in 20 foot of water. I like a chunk because it does a great job looking like a big craw moving all around ! Rubber is key as it looks the most life like any rubber jig works just needs to be hand tied as rubber Is not very durable !

Water temp low 60s, air temp in the 50s. Fished the northern end of guntersville, focused on north sauty and slow rolled a swim jig around dead pad stems produced a good number of bites but not great quality. Used a queen tackle swim jig with a fat Albert when I wanted to keep it down in the water column and a menace when I wanted to keep it further up, later in the day a menace grub was working better on the back of the jig.
