Spring time is an excellent time to pick up a jerkbait! Water is still cold and the smallmouth are typically cruising rocky banks points and drop offs. I found a decent school of them using my active target and was able to catch several 3 to 5 lbers in the same area in about a 1hr stretch of time. Watching them react to the twitch twitch pause was really helpful to dial in the cadence they liked. So mix it up until you find what they are looking for and I gaurantee you will have success!
