Had a decent half day trip to Lone Star Lake this past weekend. The first half of the morning was pretty steady with 6 bites in total and landing 5 of them, but the last couple hours were long and dead. My focus was on the shallow bank grass, which I believe to be American pond weed, with most bites coming on the back side of the grass edge closest to the bank. My first two bites missed my buzzing frog, however I was able to follow up the second with a Berkley General and catch it. After that I kept the General in my hand pitching it and casting it to high percentage shallow targets pulling it slowly and letting it fall on a slack line. I had the General weightless Texas rigged throwing it on 15lb test flurocarbon on a 7' MH rod and a 7.3:1 baitcaster. I was also able to catch a good fish skipping a chatterbait up under a dock as well. Conditions were not totally ideal as it seemed to be a typical fall high pressure post frontal day. Additionally, the water seems to not have cooled off a whole lot either. In the coming days and weeks as we get more consistent colder weather the shallow bite should really start heating up. Almost all the fish I caught were healthy and plump too meaning the forage population is in good condition. This will help to be able to target the bass easier as they hone in on the bait. Look for the chatterbait, swim jig, and topwater bite to become staples in that time period.
