Minnows
This time of year the smallmouth are targetting schools of minnows out in the middle of the lake in 40 to 60 feet of water. This is reactive fishing. Your trolling motor is on high and when you see fish busting the schools on the surface you move quickly in that direction. Make long casts with walking style baits and wait for the attack. Sometimes 2 or 3 fish can be pulled off of one school of the small blueish white minnows.
