Fished Wisconsin Kayak Fishing Club Wisconsin River tournament Saturday July 16th. Weather was in the 60s to start the day and water temperatures were 72.5 degrees so it was one of those mornings with the fog rolling off the surface of the water and it was calm with very limited winds. Pitching the Strike King Rage Bug on the Trokar EWG hook around the shallow waters at the base of trees or lay downs was the ticket for me this day. The bite started slow but I did manage three fish in the first hour. Second hour the same technique was working but only caught two more bass. Stuck with it and occasionally pitched a green pumpkin Senko on the Trokar TK150 which also resulted in some success. The Strike King Rage Menace was fished on the TK125 with a 5/16 tungsten weight pegged with a bobber stop. The Senko was fished on the TK150 and weightless. As the day moved on my catch rate went up in fish per hour. At The end of tournament hours it was interesting to see that after my 18.5" smallie in the morning, all of my final cull fish were the last fish of the day. All in all, a great event, lots of fish caught and an OK finish for me. Try these plastics and hooks and you will not be disappointed.
