Spent the day practicing for an upcoming tournament. Finding matted vegetation around shallow bluegill beds seemed to have a few bass hanging around willing to come up for a frog.

Caught fish in the shallowest water I could find. Backs of slues and shallow cuts produced most fish. Ned rig worked best when fishing in the "nurseries". Swim jig worked best in most areas producing larger prespawn fish.

Flipping beds with a white rage craw produced some nice males locked to beds. Females cruising but not locked yet and weren’t biting.

Fishing around hard cover produced some really great LM bass. Texas rigged Senko on a Mustad hook pinned them all!

Larger bass were hunkered down around submerged vegetation adjacent to spawning flats in 6-8 feet of water. Slow presentations like an unweighted Flush were the key to getting a few quality bites. Using quality Bajio shades to seek out areas with the thickest vegetation was worth the time investment. Sunline Overwatch is amazing for long casts with spinning reels and that was important with the high, sunny skies in shallow water.

With the water being so high you have to find a way to effectively cover and eliminate dead water, I flipped this bait up and down different stretches of flooded brush. Wherever I got bit I came back to the opposite direction with different baits and was able to narrow my fishing down to about a 50 yard stretch going back and fourth getting bit often! Switching between a bronco bug and then a more subtle trick worm.

Took 1st out of 47 in a local kayak tournament. With overcast skies and calm conditions, there was a hot topwater bite on inside weed edges at dawn on bluegill imitations fished slow. Topwater died down by mid morning and both largemouth and smallmouth were found near the outside weed edges in 12-15’. Fish were preferring more finesse presentations. Getting a jig worm stuck in the thicker grass clumps and popping it out produced the best bites.

With water coming up, and a few colder nights the fish were way up in the flooded brush/timber. The Texas rig and chatterbait were the best best baits I was able to fish effectively and efficiently through it all!

spent time fishing Pool 4 backwaters for the MN Bass Nation Team Trail. Water was high, so main and secondary channels had a lot of current. Best areas we're off the secondary channels with minimal\no current but near flowing water. Most of the weekend was overcast and rainy with lots of active pike in the same areas as the bass. Frogs and Swimjigs worked around submerged or floating vegetation worked best for both species.

The key was to find a hard bottom. Docks around hard bottom were very productive. 2-3 fish off each dock. A wacky worm will also work, it was too windy to effectively fish a wacky on this day,

2nd stop of the team trail was out of Wabasha. We spend all of our practice and the tournament chasing post spawn largemouth. Falling water had us focusing on the clearer water areas with the thickest matted up weeds we could find. The frog was great for covering water and the All Terrain rattle jig picked up the biggest bites.

No real consistent bite or pattern, just junk fished, and was able to get a few bites on each a finesse jig, choppo, and drop shot. They seem to be in the post spawn recovery mode and haven't really keyed on the bluegill spawn yet.
