The water is really starting to cool off with water temps in the low 60s. Lots of the vegetation in the backwaters is dying off. I was able to find some pads that had some life left in them that were keeping the water clear and full of oxygen. There’s lots of young of the year shad in the system right now so I was doing everything I could to imitate those and it paid off with some beauty largies. Tight lines folks!

I was able to find largemouth around dying lily pad stems throwing spinnerbaits. I stuck with white and natural colors with the water being clearer.

Fish were super shallow in the morning. Burning a spinnerbait above submerged grass and lay downs was a major producer. Once the sun got higher switching to a more natural color was key to getting more bites.

Slug them out up shallow. This lake is full of grass, docks, and good rock. Pick up a flippin' stick and keep it in your hand.

I was using a custom Swim Jig with a White Crappie pattern. The water cooled down significantly and it was raining on and off all day. I would cast around trees, points, and parallel to the dam. The fishing was consistent, but we did not catch anything of size. The fishing is definitely picking up as it gets cooler, but it's still hit or miss with the inconsistent weather patterns lately.

There was a lot of shallow matted grass and if you flipped a jig or Texas rig into it by the mats you would get bit and it would often be a big one.

My fishing partner and I fished 3 consecutive days out on Big Stone, we found really good quality fish pushed tight to shore, docks, shade, timber, and weed clumps found close to shore. We targeted them using moving baits and found great success with almost all of our fish being caught 2/3 days going over 3 pounds. 3 five pound + largemouth were caught. I was using a straight white war eagle spinner bait (silver willow blade with gold colorado blade) and as a trailer I used a combination of a white 4” moxi and a 4 inch zoom fluke (not a super fluke) in white ice. My fishing partner was throwing a chartreuse and white zman elite chatterbait with a gold blade. For a trailer he was using a 4.8 white and silver keitech style swimbait. We had a banger of a day when it was cloudy. This is a super fun fishery and the fish are built like tanks. Right away in the morning fish related to weed clumps up shallow more, and in the afternoon they were more likely to be tucked back in shade of trees and logs. Go get em!

Bigstone lake was a tough bite, but the fish were there, the more northern parts of the lake was better and where the algae wasn’t totally covering the water. Caught em skipping jigs under docks and dragging them out.

Throwing 1/2 oz Texas rigged craws into submerged weeds. Flipping into clear patches or right in front of the weed line and slowly dragging your rig back towards the boat. We tried several different colors and the darker colors worked well but pb&j or crime scene caught the Biggins.

As this report is a little late, on a two day trip me and my grandpa slammed Largies and an occasional smallie. Most bass were of the smaller sort with the kicker coming in at around 3 1/2 as well as multiple other decent bass. On the first day threw chatterbaits (Zman project Z.) Absolutely phenomenal chatterbait and it caught a nice smallie. We did this throwing shallow around dying off vegetation where it usually would come to the surface in earlier months. On the second day we each threw Og slim 6’s and caught well over 40 fish. On that day we targeted the old river channel where it deepens and slow rolled and used the tight wobble to entice the bass.
