I went out to the lake on Saturday, December 21st with my buddies Iain and Tyler to get in on the winter power plant lake action. It was a mostly sunny day with a slight south wind at about 5 mph, and outside temperatures in the low to mid 50's. The water temperature on the lake ranged from 64-72 degrees, and the water clarity ranged from 1-3 feet of visibility. We spent the day fishing the power plant outflow canal for schooling bass in 15-20 feet of water, using a jerkbait to catch fish roaming on bait only a couple feet under the water's surface. We also went downlake to cooler water and were able to catch several fish targeting submerged grasslines and isolated timber in small pockets with a fluke and a chatterbait. Overall, we caught somewhere between 25-30 bass total, with our best 5 probably going around 12 pounds and a 4.74 pounder being the biggest (pictured with the report). Lake Welsh is fishing really good right now, as we were able to do all of this in just 4 hours of fishing and even caught one at the boat ramp before loading the boat on the trailer to leave for the day. It's hard to beat a good day of winter fishing on a heated lake, y'all get out there and rip some lips!

Had a fun day on Lake Welsh this past weekend with some great friends of mine. Caught a lot of fish and we were fortunate to even boat six over the 18" minimum there as well. We caught them on a variety of baits including swimbaits, jerkbaits, vibrating jigs, rattle traps, and a grass punching set up. We did end up catching some fish on beds later in the day as well on a Texas rigged white craw. Most of fish, with the exception of the bed fish, were caught fishing the outside of the grass but casting on top of it and bringing it to the edge of trying to get it right on the edge. Water temp was 60 degrees the day we went and will be rising with consistent good weather. The water clarity is also very good and probably in the 4-6ft clarity range.
