Winds were 22+ out of the south and we decided that shore fishing in my buddy's backyard was best. And we caught 21 bass in about 10 hours, not bad for 100' of fishable shoreline during a full moon. bait color was actually watermelon seed.

While there are still plenty of fish spawning on the banks of lake Welsh I have had success targeting the fish going and coming from the bank instead. This has proved to be efficient as well since the grass continues to get thicker and thicker making it harder to reach the spawners. I have a three ponged approach that includes a 3/8oz bladed jig, a swimming worm and a Neko rig, and that is the exact order I use them in as well. If you can find a stretch of grass that that is sparse in that 3-8 foot range those baits will catch you a number of fish and big fish as well. Having deeper water nearby is also plus in making sure that you can go back down the same stretch later in the day and have the potential to fish for new fish that have moved in that zone.

Went out to the lake for about 4-5 hours to check it out as I had only been there one other time. The water temperature ranged anywhere from 56 - 58 degrees and the water clarity ranged anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of visibility. There was a steady northwest wind and it was mostly cloudy throughout the day, with outside temperatures in the high 30's and 40's throughout the day. I spent the day targeting the outside grass edge in anywhere from 4 to 10 feet of water with a 1/2 ounce jackhammer in green pumpkin to imitate the bluegill I was seeing cruising bass chase around in the shallows. There was a few fish already set up on beds but they were very skittish and not locked on at all, so I decided to target prespawn fish using the outside grass line to cruise the shallows looking for potential bedding locations and feeding before they go up to spawn. I was able to catch 6 fish on the day like this with my best 5 going around 15 pounds, and a 4 pound kicker as my big fish. Unfortunately, my video files from the trip got corrupted, so I have no video to go with this report, but I do have a picture of one of the smaller 2 pound keepers I caught included with the report. They were hitting the chatterbait very softly, it almost felt like you got hung up when they ate it, but then the weight on the end of your line would start swimming one direction and you'd notice you had a bass. Despite the softer strikes, they got the bait good and I didn't lose any of the fish I hooked. The bite was slow for me but I had a 3 pound average on the day and you can never complain about that, I'd imagine here in a few weeks there will be a lot of bass on beds with the warming trend approaching. Thank you all for reading my reports and tight lines!
