We worked the grass edge lines of fresh grown grass on Viking lake today to pick off some fun fish today on spinning tackle wacky rigging a roboworm in about 5-7 foot of water looking for moving fish. Fish were very aggressive and would crush the bait on the fall.

Fish are extremely active with the warming weather. They are sticking close to brush piles, submerged timber, and rocks. Squarebills and lipless crankbaits are working well, especially with reaction strikes. Once again, red and orange seem to be the pre-spawn colors of choice.

The males were cruising up shallow with the females on the first break line. It was very strange, the females appeared to be full of eggs and not blemished at all despite the water being in the low 70s, there were fry up shallow, so some had definitely spawned, but not all I guess. Broke off on a good one on a brush pile.

Worked the shoreline with this weighted weedless swim bait. Lots of grass and pond weed, but not a problem with this setup.

The lake is still 5-6ft below normal pool, but I was still determined to get out there. Lots of exposed brush that is usually underwater, I opted not to fish a lot of it and try to find some rock/brush that still had water over the top. I found a nice rock pile and plucked one off of it with a football jig. The real deal was the 6th Sense Provoke jerkbait with a Crank Wraps crappie wrap on it. The water was pretty clear (about 2-3’) so I tried to keep it as natural as possible. I focused on the back half of the creeks around where the jetties were supposed to be around exposed laydowns and found some nice fish. I was using the typical twitch, twitch, pause cadence waiting about 3 seconds between iterations. Fun day!
