The water was rising and murky from recent rains. Lots of leaves and other debris coming down the river. The extremely slow retrieve of the hair jig at creek mouths was key to getting bites

I fished a known wintering hole. Water temp was 34.4 - 38.7. Air temp 29°- 59°. Water clarity stained. I was fishing the jerkbait in 6 - 10 foot of water. I fished the jerkbait similarly to a blade bait. I would cast the jerkbait down current, pull the rod up current causing the jerkbait to wobble like a blade bait. I would then allow the jerkbait to drift back on a semi slack line. Rip twice, on the third rip I would open the bail and and let out line allowing the jerkbait to free drift down current. Fish would usually inhale the bait at this time.

I was fishing a current seam around a rock boulder. This created a secondary channel that dropped off to 6-8’. I was dead sticking for long periods with slight hops here and there. The smallies were picking it right up off the bottom. I was mainly target the 5-3ft slack water near this channel. It was not a fast bite. The fish that were eating though were in the 3-5.5 range. Very slow retrieves were the key.

I was fishing boulders and rock ledges in 2-6 foot of water. I would let sit on the bottom and slight bounce the rod. The fish were generally eating on the pause on bottom.

Made a trip out to the Susquehanna River to fish a wintering area where the smallmouth bass have been piling into during the past month. The water was between 39 and 42 degrees so we had to fish slow with with a G-Man ballin out jig and a zman trd ticklerz feathering the baits with the current to get to the fish sitting behind boulders in the deeper water between 10-20'. The a-rig loaded up with 3"zman Minnowz also got the job done in the afternoon when the sun got up and warmed the water column some.
