I was on the river from 10/05/22 to 10/09/22 for the Bass Champs TX Team Championship event. We had 3 days of practice and a 2 day event. The weather and water conditions were stable all week, with temperatures starting out in the 50's in the morning and getting into the low 80's in the afternoons. There was little to no wind and sunny conditions all week, and the river had very little current. We spent most of our time in 12 mile and cross bayous fishing the rip rap banks at the pump stations and bridges, as well as fishing the brush and trees in the water at the mouths of little feeder creeks entering the bayou. We were also able to catch some fish on some of the docks located in the bayou as well. There was not really any rhyme or reason for anything, it was just a week of junk fishing the cover that was in front of you. We had an up and down week but ended up finishing the tournament in 88th place out of 197 teams. On day 1, we had a limit for 8.18 pounds and were sitting in 44th place, but only had 1 keeper bite on day 2 that we didn't take to weigh in and dropped to 88th overall. While we struggled on day 2 to get keeper bites, we still caught many short fish and all week long probably caught between 10-15 bass a day, it was just a matter of finding the right size. If you want to have a fun day catching numbers and maybe a few decent fish, the bayou is fishing pretty good right now. Squarebills, swim jigs, texas rigs, jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and medium diving crankbaits all produced bites this week. Below is a picture of our biggest fish of the week, our first fish we caught the first day of practice that went 2.5 pounds. Thank you for reading my reports and tight lines!
