Lake St Clair is known for smallies, but they have loads of quality largies in canals.

Paired with a 3/16 ounce round jighead with a 1/0 hook. 8 foot of water, let the bait sink to the bottom and reel in a slow constant retrieve. Just enough to make contact with bottom without dragging.

A lot of fish are chasing crawfish right now but there are scattered bait balls around here and there. Our numbers came off of the bottom but our big fish were what came on jerkbaits. We caught a 5 and a 6 pounder to anchor a 22 pound bag. You will go through lows, but when you find a little school of them you'll catch the snot out of them.

Fish are moving from the rivers to the mile roads in heavy schools. Tried a few techniques but the best one for numbers seemed to be super slow dragging an x-tube over rock patches and piles. If its windy throw a 1/2 oz, if it's calm use a 3/8 or you'll get hung up too much. Theres lots of zebra mussels so don't be surprised if you have to upgrade to 12 or 15 pound fluoro. The fish are super easy right now and haven't seen many baits all winter. We caught 22 pounds like it was nothing..

The smallmouth are staging to spawn on rock piles. Locate your rock piles and set up accordingly based on water clarity. I was having to cast 40 feet past to rip the Jerkbait down to them because they were glue to the bottom. Aggressive retrieval with short pauses worked best.

VERY Cold day on LSC today for the pre-spawn, only caught this guy near the rip wrap of a marina, ticking the Megabass Spark Shad off the bottom in the tiny rock fields that lead up to the rip rap.

Smallmouth fishing is picking up on Lake St Clair. Caught a dozen smallmouth 3-5lbs in 7-10FOW with clear visibility to the bottom. Finding hard bottom, shells and boulders were key.
