I went out on the lake on 12/14/21. It was overcast and raining slightly with a south wind at about 15-20 mph. The water temperatures on the lake ranged anywhere from 58 to 62 degrees fahrenheit (water was warmer on the main lake and cooler in the backs of creeks and coves). I started the day fishing in the backs of creek arms, targeting isolated stumps, weed edges, docks, and rip rap/chunk rock along banklines, especially focusing on banklines that were steeper or had a channel swing, or anywhere I saw baitfish activity. I was hitting these areas with a chatterbait and a wacky rig, and was only able to catch one small 10 inch fish doing so (this fish was caught on a wacky rigged finesse worm). After a few slow hours using that approach, my buddy and I made our way out to the main lake to try and find a new pattern. We first started fishing docks, but had no success. We then slid out to a rock island on the main lake where the rock extends way out into the water at decent depths, and had one fish slap a crankbait and miss it. Finally, we found a point that had seawall against the bank and cypress knees underneath the water from a cypress tree that had grown on the bank at the water's edge, and my buddy who I was fishing with was able to catch a nice 4.36 pound largemouth on a drop shot with a finesse worm. I have attached a photo of the good fish my buddy caught to the report. All in all, it was a rather slow day of fishing, and was much tougher than I had anticipated it being, especially once I got to the lake and saw how warm the water temperatures were for this time of year. I only got to fish for about 4 hours, so I am hoping to return to the lake soon to try and figure them out a little better, and then I will report back again!
