Smallmouth were still around their bedding areas but were postspawn. Cruising fish could be caught on a hair jig while some still on beds wanted more vertical baits like the drop shot.

It was an odd day some smallmouth were still on beds, but it was definitely a post spawn pattern. The bass were feeding on minnows and busting the surface for what’s left of the mayflies. Definitely had to wok the spook slow and they would hit it on the pause.
