When it comes to the month of September, it can honestly be one of the harder months to catch bass. The conditions can be tough, and it’s difficult to stay consistent on the water. That’s why I like to simplify my approach. In this video, I’m going to show you the three lures I rely on the most during September.

1. Topwater Lures:

September is a time of change, transitioning from the heat of summer to the cooler days of fall. This change can lead to bass being spread out and difficult to pattern. That’s why I always have a variety of topwater lures on hand. Whether you’re fishing grassy lakes with a frog or clear, rocky lakes with a Whopper Plopper, topwater lures can be incredibly effective. The key is to cover a lot of water and not worry too much about getting on a specific pattern, as bass are likely to be spread out.

2. Texas Rig:

The Texas Rig is a versatile tool during September. If you’re dealing with matted vegetation, flipping a Texas Rig with a heavy weight through the mats can be highly effective. For offshore grass, a big worm on a Texas Rig can produce big bites. Even in lakes without grass, a finesse Texas Rig flipped around wood or rocky cover can catch a lot of bass. The simplicity of the Texas Rig makes it a staple in my September arsenal.

3. Alabama Rig:

The Alabama Rig might be a bit controversial, but it can catch some of the biggest bass in September, especially as water temperatures start to drop later in the month. I prefer to use a more finesse-style Alabama Rig with smaller swimbaits. This setup mimics baitfish that bass are feeding on as they prepare for the cooler months ahead. If you’re looking to catch a big one, the Alabama Rig is a must-try.

September can be a challenging month, but by keeping your lure selection simple and focusing on proven techniques, you can increase your chances of success on the water. Happy fishing!
