Step-by-Step Guide to Tying the Uni to Uni Knot: Perfect for Beginners and Quick Line Connections

How to Tie a Uni to Uni Knot

1. Align the Lines: Start by aligning two lines in parallel, facing in opposite directions. Use an orange line for the braid and a white line for the fluorocarbon.

2. Create a Loop with the Braid: Take the braided line (orange) and form a loop. Hold this loop in place with your opposite hand.

3. Wrap the Braid: Using the tag end of the braided line, wrap it around both the fluorocarbon (white line) and the braided line within the loop. Wrap it around three to five times for a secure knot.

4. Snug the Braid Knot: After wrapping, gently pull the tag end of the braided line to snug up the knot. Do not pull it too tight at this stage.

5. Repeat with Fluorocarbon: Repeat the same process with the fluorocarbon line. Create a loop and wrap it around both lines a few times.

6. Snug the Fluorocarbon Knot: After wrapping, snug up the fluorocarbon knot by gently pulling its tag end.

7. Moisten and Tighten: Wet the knot to ease tightening. Then, pull the main lines to bring the two snug knots together.

8. Final Tightening: Pull on the tag ends of both lines to fully tighten the knot. Ensure it's secure and compact.

9. Finished Knot: You now have a secure, small Uni to Uni knot, suitable for line-to-line connections in fishing.

What's up everybody? Back with another knot for you. This one's a beginner knot called the Uni to Uni knot. It's a line to line connection knot. I also did another knot in this series called the RP knot or the Modified Albright, a whole bunch of names for it, but you'll see what I'm talking about. In the line to line connection world, we narrowed it down as a group here to your good, better, best. And this would be the good level. Better would be the knot that I tie on a regular basis. Pete's RP knot there that you can see in our video of, you want to check that out too. It's a little bit more complicated than this knot. And then the FG being the, if you're a hardcore angler and you do this and you fish your money and you've got good eyeballs and some patience, learn that FG knot. It's the best one of the bunch. But this one here is if you're struggling at all, trying to figure any of this stuff out and you've just got some braids and some floor at home, you want to learn a quick knot to attach them to gain your confidence in fishing. I would suggest try this one. This is a quick, easy one. And it's called the Uni to Uni knot.

So all I'm going to do is parallel my two lines going the opposite direction with each other. I give myself lots of extra room as I'm learning the knot, kind of grab it in the middle of the two. The orange could represent the braid here and the white representing the fluoro. And I'm just going to make a circle or a loop with my braided line first. Remember, I've pinched it in the middle of my opposite hand. I'm just making a loop. So all I've done now is made a loop with my braided line. That's all I'm doing. I'm holding it there. Now I'm going to take the tag end of my loop and I'm going to wrap it around both my fluorocarbon and braid. That's part of my braid loop. Just a few times. I do this knot still just to tie my backing line to my braid. And I only wrap it a couple of times just to keep the knot super small. But if you're going to fish with it, I'd suggest wrapping it around a good three, four, five times. For demonstration purposes, we're just going to do this a few times, but you're just going to wrap that tag end around both fluorocarbon and braid in the loop here. A couple of few times. We'll do it four times here for good measure. I'm going to snug that up. I'm just going to pull the tag end and just kind of snug it up . I'm not pulling it tight. I just snugged it up. I'm going to repeat that same exact process again now with my fluorocarbon. So I'm going to hold the line here in the middle and I'm going to make a loop with my fluorocarbon. I'm going to wrap it around my fluorocarbon and my braid a few times here. Once again, like I said, if you're going to fish with this, I do it about five times . But I wrapped it around there about three, four times. I'm going to snug that up too. Then the big key to this knot is moisture because this knot does pull on the two lines quite a bit. So you're going to wet it down with the rope here. I don't need to do that, but you should do that yourself. I'm going to pull now my main lines, my fluorocarbon and my braid. I'm going to pull them until I snug that knot up together. And then I'm going to pull my tag ends tight. So I pull my braid and fluorocarbon. I pull them both tight and then I'm going to pull on both of them and get them real snug and pull on them really hard.

And now hear you go. I've got a real secure line to line connection. It's a small knot. It does go through the guides, even sometimes in my opinion, a little better than the knot that I think is better than I tie my Crazy Alberto or RP knot, you want to call it, but this little Uni-Uni knot's a very simple knot. Basically, I just parallel on those lines, making a loop wrapping around each loop doing it both ways, pulling it down tight. So if you're just wanting to try this and see if it's worth it to you to make that leap over to braid to fluorocarbon, try this knot out. It's a really simple knot. It's a good knot to know for speed and efficiency. If you've got to tie a line to line connection really fast. But if you get good at it and you gain confidence efficient, I'd step up to one of the other two knots and get good at those practice those over a winter time tying it with some rope at home or some of your fishing line at home.
