Let's Bend the St. Croix Physyx 7'3" / Medium / Extra-Fast | Polish Pete

7’3” St. Croix Physyx medium, extra-fast action. This rod right here is probably in my opinion going to be one of the, if not the most popular rod in this lineup just based on numbers. Let's see once they get out on the water and fish of them. I haven't done that yet. But this power and action and this rod is becoming more and more popular across all brands and everything just 7’3” medium. Fast action in general this one being extra-fast is just taken off. But St. Croix in particular does a really good job with extra-fast actions in my opinion. And this rod feels really special in the whole lineup. They all feel really nice and they feel different because this is a massive departure from the traditional St. Croix rods of the past. I do think all the rod geeks out there are going to say the same thing. Whether you love this thing or not you cannot say this time around the St. Croix put another rod out just like some of the similar some similar actions or similar aesthetics or anything like that. This is different. Even just the balance of the rods is different than St. Croix of the past. So kudos to them for taking a departure from the traditional St. Croix going into this. These rods do feature the SC4+ blanks in that which is a hybrid blank. They use different materials than just the SC4 carbon. That's hence the plus. They use multiple different carbon fiber carbon fiber materials in these blanks to achieve the action and power that they're after. And it does make these rods a little bit special more special than they've had been in the past where fast is kind of fast and they kind of across the line kind of know what you're getting. These make it kind of fun to bend and see how extreme they can be or the differences between them. The handles themselves are the Trigon handles that you've heard them talking about a bunch which is some scientific study they did about the shape of your hands and what would fatigue you the least using the rods and give you the most power. And that's that's triangle shaped handles on here. It is for grip which I like. I talk about that a lot. It is grooved in the back here perfectly that if you are a split finger person. A more traditional grip on the rod. It is quite comfortable. Actually it is really comfortable to be honest with you. I like having my hand forward. It lets me run bigger heavier spinning reels for better line management, better casting, bigger drag surfaces blah blah blah blah. And it still makes the rod feel balanced and gives me lots of power and leverage because I'm using my arm to fish at the rod and not my wrist to set hooks and fight fish and all that. Trigger on the back here. I've talked about this on the other models as well. This is something that you just have to pick up and play with yourself to understand. I did see it at first and thought well that won't mean anything to me. I don't know if it will get in the way or not. It's actually insanely ergonomic. You'll find yourself putting your finger on it quite a bit and it's like one of those things where I think I wouldn't be surprised you see this on more rods. Not even outside of St. Croix. I think somebody who maybe follow the lead on that. I haven't fished with it on the water like I said but just monkey with them in the shop here. It's very natural to when you're going to make a roll cast or anything like that. You put your fingers right there and it's really natural feeling. I like it a lot. Excited to get this one on the wall over there. Bend it and see what the action is like. So let's check out this 7’3” medium, extra-fast action St. Croix Physyx spinning rod. 

 

Here we are with a St. Croix Physyx 7’3” medium, extra-fast which I believe is going to be probably the most popular rod in this lineup just based out of the gates. I think a lot of people have found this rod. Actually I like to be one of the best St. Croix does. So I'm going to try it in this Physyx series. I'm going to give it a little bit of a mark here. Make sure I got no load on it and we're going to give it a little bit of a load and see. Yeah, I would say of all of them so far the spinning rods that I've been. This one's a little bit more fast than an extra fast action in my opinion than the other ones. It still is extra-fast. I know it's bending in that kind of fast range up there versus the extra fast but once again a little bit of action I'm making that tip dance. I don't have to move my hand much at all in part to part any action on that really fast tip up there. So that is extra-fast up there. What I'm going to do now is I'm going to set the hook real hard and see how it loads up. And yeah it's loading up way back on the rod blank which is ideal for you light line anglers out there and you finesse anglers out there. You do want to use most of your rod to fight especially when you're trying to land fish at the side of the boat. Watch a smallmouth turn many time. Watch them try to land some fish at the side of the boat. You do want your rod to give you all that forgiveness and your backbone there but this does load back a lot further than I expected it to with the extra-fast action. The tip on this rod is really really really soft and it does impart, you can impart action on this thing with very little movement as I stated before. So I still would give it a nod at saying I understand whether calling it extra fast but just expect that when you're fighting the fish it's going to fight a fast. It's going to fight a fish more like the more modern blanks of today in that little bit more of a fast to fast-moderate action when you're actually loaded the rod up and you're fighting the fish. Like I said before it's the other spinning rods I find that as an advantage. It's great to know that I have that extra-fast tip for actually imparting action on my bait but I have that more modern rod action for fishing with stiffer lines. On this particular rod I do have a SEVIIN spinning reel on it and it is balancing perfectly on here. I think you can put an even heavier spinning reel on here and you'd still get a lot of good balance on it. They do feel like weighted more towards this back section here. I'm very impressed with this particular model here because I like running bigger spinning reels like 3 and 4,000 size spinning reels and it does balance quite nice. I think you're going to be impressed with this series and I think in particular this is a good rod to make a bet on if you're going to try and buy one online. The 7’3” medium, extra-fast St. Croix rod to me has become the versatile rod of this lineup that I've seen so far. [Music] [BLANK_AUDIO]
