Fished for an hour between thunderstorms and torrential downpours resulting from a passing cold front. I was able to catch 8 bass in that span, the best five of which weighed a total of 13lbs. I caught a mix of largemouth and spotted bass, and all came on a 4" Yum Dinger in black with blue flake. Despite the cloud cover and rain, bass were positioned tight against dock pilings in 1 to 3 feet of water. Winds were non-existent for that one hour, but they howled before and after that time. In the days following the rain, morning air temps plummeted, lake levels rose by a foot, water clarity became very stained, and water temps dropped several degrees. But, for that one magic hour, just about everything was perfect!

Fished Lake Gaston once again in advance of my club's two-day tournament on April 11th and 12th. Water levels rose and water temps dropped following a few frigid mornings,, several inches of rain, and a significant release of water from Kerr Lake. The heavily stained water moved fish tight to cover, and I found largemouth bass hanging tight against the shallowest dock pilings I could find in the back of creeks and main lake pockets. I caught several on an unweighted, Texas-rigged 4' Yum Dinger in black with blue flake. I never felt the bites. I simply had to watch my line for signs of movement, and I was able to catch a nice limit.

I fished Lake Gaston in preparation for a tournament and found willing spotted bass on a stump field in the back of a major creek. I caught many bass against stumps using a shakey head with a Strike King KVD Plastics Finesse Worm in red bug. But, I caught some better bass casting and swimming a Big Bite Baits B5 Swimbait over and above the stumps. Some of the swimbait strikes were simply awesome! The bass wanted to annihilate the swimbait!

Fished main lake pockets filled with shallow stumps and found willing spotted bass preparing for the impending spawn. I caught bass on a variety of lures, including crankbaits, wacky rigged Senkos, and spinnerbaits, but I did best with neko rigs, specifically, Zoom Magnum Trick Worms in black and redbug.

Located some decent fish in the 3' range up in the hay grass. You could occasionaly catch them on a frog but the weightless senko was the reliable producer for the day. You had to dead stick it.

Bass were on beds, and staging to get on beds. It was a slow bite, but the bigs would still hammer anything that got close to their spawning area.

Found smaller males up on the banks in good numbers, larger females are still out deeper staging. Caught males casting to pea gravel banks. Females could be caught shooting docks under floats or could be found out roaming with FFS. Darker colors seemed to work the best for the mid lake area we were in.

Focused on standing timber in close proximity to spawning flats. Utilized a swimming jig to "knock" into the wood structure, thereby causing a strike.

Make lake who's were hovering around 62. We found a good number of large bass in the backs of the creeks. The water temp was 66 in the backs. Throwing close to cover, we were able to get them to bite with the Bronco bug texas rigged. Water was still dirty but it had cleared up a bit
