During these cold winter months, you really need a fish finder with good sidescan capabilities. Look for store drop offs between 0’-15’ (where bass will feed) and 20’-30’ (where they will stay when not feeding). Throw out a deep diving crankbait in these transition areas. I personally love the 6th Sense Cloud 9 C10. It dives between 10-12 feet. You will need to have patience, because your fish are going to be fewer than the spring, summer and fall months. Using a medium to slow retrieve, bring the crankbait back to you while just barely feeling good it’s action at the end of your rod. Often times in these colder months, the bite feels mushy, like someone put a wet rag on the end of your line. Good luck out there!

It’s cold. The fish are moving slowly, so you have to move slowly. During feeding windows, the largemouth will move off of ledges and into the shallows to feed. Target them by throwing a squarebill around stumps and rock piles. Reel just enough to feel the lure action on the end of your rod. Keep moving. The fish stack up this time of year. If you find them, stay in that spot, and you should catch a bunch. Good luck!

Feb 17, 2022. A buddy and I decided to head out there today for some winter fishing knowing that it will be a tough bite to get it and we got all of our set-up with Conventional and finesse set-ups. We threw pretty much everything that you can think of, but fish weren’t biting after our first fish we caught. 15 minutes into our fishing my buddy casted out a soft swimbait and slow rolled it on top of grass mats and lilipad steams and out of nowhere a 3 pound bass smoked it. After that bite it was cold and very windy for the next few hours and not a single bite since then.
