Fishing Report – Little Caney Creek, Sam Rayburn Reservoir Date: January 29, 2025 Conditions & Water Temp: Fishing in the Little Caney Creek section of Sam Rayburn Reservoir today was slow but steady, with water temperatures sitting at 58.6°F. Conditions were a bit tough, but patience paid off. Catch Details: Landed four bass, with the biggest weighing 3 lbs 9 oz. The bite wasn’t aggressive, so finesse was key. Tactics & Lures: • The most productive technique was using a weightless worm, letting it sink naturally before adding a few subtle twitches to create movement. • The bites were light and spaced out, requiring a slow and methodical approach. Final Thoughts: Bass seemed lethargic, likely due to cooler water temps, but a finesse presentation proved effective. Not the most action-packed day, but still a solid outing on Sam Rayburn. As temperatures start to warm, expect the bite to gradually improve. Would recommend sticking to slow-moving presentations and targeting areas with deeper structure until fish become more active. Tight lines! 🎣

Bass were suspended on dropoffs at 10-15ft. Dropshotting with minimal movement and slow retrieve proved to be the most effective. Senkos were the hot bait, followed by soft jerk baits.

I fished my first tournament of the year on the lake on Saturday, January 25th with my tournament partner Iain. It was a partly cloudy day with low temperatures in the morning at around 35 degrees and high temperatures in the afternoon at about 64 degrees, and a south wind that started out at about 8 mph and rose to about 25 mph sustained by the end of the tournament. The water temperature on the lake ranged anywhere from 52 degrees in the backs of some creeks on the north side of the lake, to 70 degrees near the power plant discharge area, but averaged between 64-68 degrees throughout most of the lake. Water clarity on the lake ranged anywhere from 1-3 feet of visibility, with a slight greenish hue to the water in the backs of the creeks. We spent the day covering water and junk fishing with everything we could think of, and ended up catching 8 fish total, all keepers, with our best 5 (pictured with the report) weighing in at 15.14 pounds, good enough for 2nd place out of 23 teams. We caught all 5 of the keepers we brought to the scales on 5 different baits in completely different areas, so the key was really just about moving around the lake and covering more water and depth zones/types of cover and structure than everyone else on the water. The lake was fully booked that day, so there was 150 boats on the water, covering more water than everyone else was the key to catching more fish than most. Most of the fish we caught were between 8 and 12 feet deep, but we also did catch one of our bigger fish later in the day that made a crucial cull in only 2 feet of water. We caught fish on crankbaits, jigs, drop shots, chatterbaits, and jerkbaits, but the biggest bites came on the chatterbaits and the jerkbaits. The lake is fishing tough overall right now, but they still gotta eat, so get out there and cover some water!

Short trip to the small ponds in Round Rock. The fluctuations in weather has made the bite slow. Dropshot with finesse worms fished along the vegetation proved to be effective.

With the water fluctuating so much and the cold blue bird days it has been tough. Best bite came on a texas rigged Senko with a light weight.

Had a great day on Squaw Creek Reservoir in Glenrose , Texas! Largemouth were holding close to the standing Timber in the 15-20ft depth range. I was able to get quality bites using a Drop Shot with a RoboWorm MM.||| in Color mimicking the tilapia the bass feed on there. Using a 1/0 Cover Shot Hook , 20lb main line power pro Hi Vis Yellow Braid & 10lb Seaguar Flourocarbon Leader 3/8 oz Woo Cylinder Tungsten Drop Shot Weight.

Was able to get Largemouth bites around standing timber today using a Berkley Stunna 112 in the Hankie Pankie Color. The fish were set up on the tops of the standing timber in about 10-15ft of water. Also caught some fish at the base of the standing timber using a drop shot , Owner Cover Shot 1/0 hook with a Strike King Dream Shot Candy Craw in Color.

Ripping traps through the hydrilla got reaction bites. When it gets cold on Toledo if you are not throwing a trap you are fishing for second place. One key is using regular line to allow the stretch and also mustad triple grip hooks along with a limber Rod. These help you to not lose as many fish on the traps.

I went out to the lake on Saturday, December 21st with my buddies Iain and Tyler to get in on the winter power plant lake action. It was a mostly sunny day with a slight south wind at about 5 mph, and outside temperatures in the low to mid 50's. The water temperature on the lake ranged from 64-72 degrees, and the water clarity ranged from 1-3 feet of visibility. We spent the day fishing the power plant outflow canal for schooling bass in 15-20 feet of water, using a jerkbait to catch fish roaming on bait only a couple feet under the water's surface. We also went downlake to cooler water and were able to catch several fish targeting submerged grasslines and isolated timber in small pockets with a fluke and a chatterbait. Overall, we caught somewhere between 25-30 bass total, with our best 5 probably going around 12 pounds and a 4.74 pounder being the biggest (pictured with the report). Lake Welsh is fishing really good right now, as we were able to do all of this in just 4 hours of fishing and even caught one at the boat ramp before loading the boat on the trailer to leave for the day. It's hard to beat a good day of winter fishing on a heated lake, y'all get out there and rip some lips!

Finished 9th of 51 in a tournament. All my fish came on a dead sticked weightless Senko in black/blue flake. The Seaguar InvizX was a key as I had a couple of fish wrap me around stumps and the line never let me down. If you are fishing fluor, and not using InvizX you are going to have some brokeoff fish. This stuff is the best I have ever used. Another key was the Shimano DC. Throwing weightless in the wind would have eaten me up in the past, but that DC allows you to throw directly into the wind and never backlash. Best reel ever!
