I went to the lake on Friday, February 7th with my tournament partner Iain for a day of fishing and filming on the lake for our youtube channel. We spent the day targeting under-sized keepers in shallow water, skipping a wacky rig and chatterbait under docks in the first third of creek arms and throwing them on secondary grass points in the back halves of creek arms in 3-9 feet of water, and we were able to catch 8 total fish, with 6 keeper unders and 2 slot fish, in just a couple hours of fishing. The water temperature on the lake ranged anywhere from 50-53 degrees on the south end of the lake and anywhere from 56-63 degrees on the north end, with the main lake being cooler than the creeks. Water temperature ranged from 2.5-3 feet of visibility on the south end of the lake and 2 inches to a foot and a half of visibility on the north end. The key to the bite was finding clean water, and especially clean water that was warm, and then just covering water up shallow. It was a mostly cloudy day with a southwest wind at about 10 mph all day, with outside temperatures starting in the mid 60's and warming up to about 80 degrees by the time we left. The prespawn bite on lake fork is pretty good right now, so get out there and wet a line!
