Eufaula is a dirty (red dirt) lake. Which allows the crappie to live shallow year-round. Eufaula Lake has crappie from one end of the lake to the other. Although it’s not a “crappie of a lifetime lake”, it’s most definitely a “fill your freezer lake.” The massive population of crappie is amazing at this Oklahoma gem! I was catching my crappie in small ditches directly off massive flats. The ditch would drop only a couple of feet, but the crappie was using the ditch as a highway. I was using an 11’ crappie pole and placing my 1/8 hair jig right on their nose utilizing my Garmin Live scope. The ditch was 15’-18’ deep and the crappie were 10’-12’ down in open water and on the stumps. You don’t think about crappie living this shallow during the winter months, but the dirty water allows them to do this.
