Omnia PRO on Kentucky Lake
Video Transcript
Blake Tinsley here. Omnia Gold Ambassador and Angler at McKendry University. Today I'm going to talk to you guys about some really cool new stuff coming out from Omnia on the Omnia Fishing app.
You can see here we're looking at Kentucky Lake in Kentucky and Tennessee. I've got a college tournament coming up here next month and I'm going to show you how the new Omnia Premium Pro feature is going to help me research the lake, help me in practice and even in the tournament, and how it's been helping me around Illinois these past few weeks. Omnia Premium Pro is a new feature from Omnia that gives you a bunch of information about pretty much every lake in the country.
It's an add on to the Omnia Premium feature that's been around for quite a while that we all know and love. So let's get into it. Here is all the features of Omnia Premium Pro.
You've got water clarity, temperature, sea map. You can see the bottom, hardness, vegetation, along with wind, radar, precipitation, air temperature, lightning and storm cells. And as always, you can see the standard and satellite on both the app and on the website.
However, Omnia Premium Pro right now is only available on the Omnia Fishing app on your phones. We're going to start it out here with water clarity. You can see here a description of what the water clarity does and the features about just click that button, check it green and hit done.
We can see a map of Kentucky Lake right here. If we hit this legend in the top left corner, you can see what the different colors mean versus clear and murky water. To help you understand what the water clarity is like at the lake, you're going to it's going to help you determine what type of stuff to fish, what colors to throw.
You're not going to have to wait till you get to the lake anymore or sitting on Google Earth and zooming in trying to figure it out. You're going to know right off the bat and it's going to help you be more prepared when you get on the water. Moving on from that, we have the water temperature.
Water temperature feature is something that's been around on the Omnia app for quite a while now, and it's something that I've really utilized this entire summer, all the way from Lake Hartwell, South Carolina, to my home state of Minnesota. You can see here just how accurate it is on Kentucky Lake. You can see we've got 80 degree water on the main lake, and often to some of these points, we've got 85.
We've got 84 up here all the way to 87 degree water. This is super good information to have whether you're on the lake and they're only biting in a certain temperature or you're going to the lake for the first time. And along with the fishing reports, you want to know what to throw that time of year, with what water temperature.
You can look at the fishing reports or just use your knowledge to help you be prepared when you get onto the water, help you catch more fish. It's really nice to have in the spawn. You can see where on the lake the fish are most likely going to be spawning.
It's just really awesome to have and it gives you a lot of information. I'm going to go a little bit more into this in another video later on when I go out and break down a lake using the Omnia Premium Pro. Moving on, here we have CMAP.
CMAP is the mapping system that Lowrance uses. And this is the CMAP Genesis. So CMAP Genesis is a thing that Lowrance does with their CMAPS, where they have Lowrance users go out, they map the lakes, they scan them, they graph them, then they can upload that onto their computer, onto the Genesis software.
And this is what you're seeing right here. So you can see that there are some blank spots. But over time, as more people map the lake and more people fish it, it's going to get clearer.
You can see in this cove here in this creek Arm, you can see just how accurate it is and how much detail it shows you. And this ties into our next two things, my two favorite features, bottom hardness and vegetation. You click on this and you can see the bottom composition of the entire lake.
This is super helpful on any lake in the country that you're on. You key in on a pattern with a certain bottom hardness and now you don't know where to go. Normally, you're going to have to run around the lake.
You're going to have to scan stuff, you're going to have to find it. You're going to have to look around. Now you can just go on the Omnia app, click on that bottom hardness feature, find exactly what you want to do.
You can see here you've got main lake points with some bottom hardness. You can get in here. You've got some secondary points with bottom hardness.
Super easy to find, super easy to use. Click on this legend here and it'll tell you all the different colors and what they mean and what you're looking for. This plays really nice along with the vegetation map.
Back in Minnesota, where I'm from, a lot of the times, if you can find some submerged vegetation with some pea gravel or a hard bottom spot, you're going to catch a lot of fish on it. And that's true pretty much around the country. You can see here, coming up to this point right here, we've got a lot of vegetation coming off of this point out into the water.
We're going to go over here, going to go back to the bottom hardness. You can see here that it's red. That means it's going to be a shell bed.
It's going to be pea gravel. It's going to be something hard bottom that the fish like to set up on already. And then you combine that with the vegetation and you're just bound to catch a fish at some point.
It's really nice to have. It's really awesome. All the features you can use on this app.
You don't have to go between five different apps and go to history on Google Earth to see where the vegetation is. It's just all right here. It's all accurate and it gets updated all the time.
Now, moving on to the weather layers, say I'm fishing wind blown points, right? And I want to find something hard bottom points. You click the wind here. This is going to show you the direction the wind is blowing on the lake.
You can see that today the wind is blowing from the west to the east. So if I'm wanting to fish some of these wind blown points, I'm going to want to be on this east side of the lake. You can see here on all of the points exactly how the wind's blowing into it.
You get really keyed in on a pattern. There's a certain way you want to fish them, there's a certain way you want to pull up, or there's certain type of waves you're looking for and how they're hitting it. You can just go on the app right here.
You can see every single point, exactly how the wind's blowing into it, so that you can go there. You don't have to drive around the lake looking for waves, going into points, looking how the wind's blowing. You just know right off of your phone.
You can get there, set up with the wind or against it, however you want to do it. And it just saves so much time, so much energy. You can catch more fish in less amount of time.
Moving on from the wind, you've got weather, radar, precipitation. You can see how much it's going to rain that day. You've got air temperature, then lightning and storm cells.
These are two really awesome features that I really like. If you're on the lake, lightning starts going off, starts raining, you can see where that is on the lake. Get yourself to safety, find shelter, and then get back on the water.
If it's safe when it's over, go over to the Omnia app right now, get a seven day free trial of the premium pro for yourself. Check it out. I guarantee you're going to love it.
