I had success catching smallmouth as well as my personal best Northern Pike on Enemy Swim this past week. The water clarity is quite good and was having some success using small swimbaits. Fish were cruising along weed-line edges, and edges of reed clusters, in the middle to bottom of the water column. You can get good success with a small swimbait like a small spark shad or a zman minnowz on a small jig head.

8/21/2022: We caught a bunch of quality smallmouth and a few quality largemouth. The smallmouth were feeding on craws and the largemouth were chasing bait out a bit deeper. The majority of our fish came in 3-6 ft of water. The thicker the vegetation the thinner material bait id use to get more hook penetration. Black and Blue was the color of choice. The water was stained and that darker presentation made for more bites. We did not catch the numbers we normally do on Enemy Swim, but we had a phenomenal day for quality with our best 5 weighing in at 18.30, which was good enough for first place.

8/14/2022: The bite on Enemy Swim is good, but inconsistent. We caught slightly below average numbers, but high quality. We covered a lot of ground with a Rat L Trap and Spinnerbait, but once the sun came up the dock bite was on fire. We found multiple docks that reloaded with high quality fish. The fish were aggressive and would hit anything that could be skipped under a dock. We caught both largemouth and smallmouth, with an average fish of 2.75 - 3 lbs.

The bite is on for all species. Due to 45 mph wind gusts we were unable to leave the bay but we found fish. The smallmouth are still out deep (probably on main lake rock piles), but the largemouth were plentiful. 7-10 feet deep you could see them swimming in and out of the grass on Livescope. Big white bass had moved up shallower on the flats (getting ready to spawn), and the pike were scattered throughout. The big largemouth are present if you can find them. I threw a variety of jerkbaits but the Rapala shadow rap deep worked the best. It has a slightly faster fall rate that was triggering reaction bites the second you’d pause the bait.

The SDBF High School State Championship went well. My boys won the event throwing jerkbaits on main lake points. The key of the day was to have a solid rotation. There were 3 points holding quality fish, and the schools would get active for 15 - 25 casts and shut off. Each pass the boys would catch one 3 - 4 lbs and go to the next point.

Fish were set up on rock piles in 20 feet of water. All fish were caught dragging and stroking tubes of the bottoms. Darker color tubes with flake we’re producing well compared to liter colors.
