Right now there are gobs and gobs of bait fish up and down the lake. Some have active fish in them some down. I was out with the family just fun fishing and I scoped a catfish (unintentionally). We caught a few but they are definitely very keyed on the baitfish. It can be a touch difficult to get them to bite but be patient.

Mid November, water temps were in low to mid 60s. Tail race bite was just starting to pick up. Lots of white bass, with a few a largemouth & smallmouth mixed in. A-rigs with light heads and 3.8 Keitechs caught tons of fish and the action was steady. Looks for current seams. A-rigs with extra blades seemed to be best. Keitechs on single jig heads produced a few fish as well.

Fishing main current drifts below wheeler dam. Focus on the largest current changes. Try swapping to a dark colored swimbait on just the middle wire to get a reaction bite.

Typical Alabama weather in the winter! We had a warming trend that kept temperatures in the low 60’s and high 50’s at night and 67-70 degree days. The largemouth were pushed up on points and rocky structure chasing shad. I caught most of my fish on the Rapala Shadow Rap Deep jerkbait.
