Get your heaviest swim jig rod out and get to work. 7ft+ MH- H action with at least 30 pound braided line. Use a high speed reel to keep up with the bigger Toads, and be ready for hand to hand combat in the thicker stuff. White, chartreuse and bluegill color variety of swim jigs will produce in shallow vegetation and lilipads this time of year. Mid to large size largemouth chase like crazy. PS, they will eat a topwater frog this time of year as well.

Had a tournament here this past weekend. Caught several fish in sparse pads with a Spro flapping frog. Mid day I went out and fished the deep weed edge with a squarebill in about 6 foot of water. Caught a few more along with a pile of pike.

Great start to the morning. Largemouth and northern pike were munching on the buzzbait. Throwing up to a shaded shoreline in 2 foot of water got many strikes.

Texas Rigged a Deps Cover Scat on long casts over one of the few chunk rock areas on the lake. Bite was slow until I put the Scat on, let it sink plenty and soak 15-20 seconds, twitch back to boat. First cast - 20 incher.

Casting slow presentation swim jig was my only way to get those fish to commit. Got a few short strikes on moving baits.
